Russian classical music maestro, Yuri Bashmet, completes successful Seychelles tour

Russian classical music maestro, Yuri Bashmet, completes successful Seychelles tour ( Yuri Bashmet, the reputed and world-renowned Russian classical violist, has completed his second tour of the Seychelles where he performed three impressive concerts for lovers of classical music.

It was in 2010, that Yuri Bashmet first undertook a tour of the Seychelles at the invitation of the island’s Ministry of Culture and the Seychelles Tourism Board. The friendship developed, coupled with the success of the tour, had prompted the government of Seychelles to try to get Maestro Yuri Bashmet back to the islands. Apart from the support of the Ambassador Mikhail Kalinin, the Russian Ambassador accredited to Seychelles, the 2011 Bashmet Tour was made possible because of many sponsors and lovers of classical music.

At a farewell dinner for Maestro Yuri Bashmet at the Russian Ambassador’s residence at Sans Soucis on Mahe, it was agreed in principle by Maestro Bashmet, Minister Meriton, and Minister Shamlaye, and Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles Tourism Board, in the presence of the Russian Ambassador Mikhail Kalinin, that the Bashmet Tour of the Seychelles would now become an annual event on the Celebrate Seychelles list of events.

The dates of the 2012 Yuri Bashmet Tour will be announced during the opening ceremony of the Carnaval International de Victoria on March 2, 2012. The Seychelles Tourism Board will now be producing a brochure on the Classical Music Tour in the Seychelles by Maestro Yuri Bashmet, which will be in line with other important events staged in Seychelles for the benefit of both the Seychellois and visitors to the islands.
