Seychelles all set for its General Elections - 51 candidates set to fight the 25 electoral seats

Seychelles all set for its General Elections - 51 candidates set to fight the 25 electoral seats ( It is now confirmed from the Seychelles that 51 candidates have registered to contest the 25 electoral seats. The candidates come from 2 political parties, the ruling Parti Lepep of President James Michel and the Popular Democratic Movement of David Pierre from the opposition, plus Jacqueline Hoareau, a nurse by profession, who is contesting as an independent candidate for the Mont Buxton Electoral District.

The Seychelles General Elections are set for September 29 and 30 and for October 1. News coming from Seychelles predicts a victory for President James Michel's Parti Lepep. This assumption is based on the resounding victory he had over the former Leader of the Opposition, Wavel Ramkalawan, in the last May Presidential Elections. The younger David Pierre, a former member of the National Assembly from the Opposition Bench sitting alongside Ramkalawan, is believed to be in line to become the next Leader of the Opposition. His campaign is low key and will be concentrated on TV and radio broadcasts.

This is seen as a possible mistake as it follows virtually the approach undertaken by Ramkalawan for the last Presidential elections. Wavel Ramkalawan was unable to create the needed electoral buzz around his campaign, and he lost badly as a result. James Michel and his Parti Lepep was busy with popular political rallies when Ramkalawan played the low key of selective one-to-one campaigning.
