Private apartments – A really clever alternative for business travellers?
The hotel association DEHOGA crizicizes safety deficiencies, stating that escape routes are missing and fire protection measures are not met. And more frequently, revenues aren´t taxed; suspected frauds are often not prosecuted by the authorities.
What could possibly become a small-scale blaze in Berlin is also a reality in many other German cities and towns. Operators of hotels, pensions and corporate housings are facing an unequal privat competition.
One might think that this is the sole problem of the operators. However, every business traveller has to continuously consider what might be the best place to stay for him.
Looking for an alternative to a hotel room the traveller might request a private landlord. But even the need of a proper bill will often be knock-out criteria. And who is looking for more space than in a hotel room, might sympathize with a holiday apartment. Yet, high-quality furnished apartments at a good price are seldom found in the city centres or at least close to the centre. This, too, is an exclusion criterion for the majority of the classic holiday apartment.
Last but not least: After a long and stressful day, most business travellers simply notice the need to relax a bit. They do not want to feel obliged to have long conversations with a private landlord. Plus: In the end, hardly any manager would like to have to clean – as it is common handling in holiday apartments in many countries.
In short: There might be situations even on business travels that renting a private room or a holiday apartment is the only given choice. Yet, for a minimum of comfort, service, quality and independence throughout a business trip, the generally better choice still will be a hotel room or a serviced apartment.
