Wildfowl and Wetland Trust from UK met with Seychelles Tourism Board to discuss programs in Seychelles

Wildfowl and Wetland Trust from UK met with Seychelles Tourism Board to discuss programs in Seychelles ( Rebecca Woodward and Marie Orchard from the Wildfowl&Wetlands Trust (WWT Consulting) of the UK, accompanied by Paul Bond from the UK Trade&Investment Bureau, met with Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, and his Deputy, Elsia Grandcourt, at the Board’s Bel Ombre Offices.

The Wildfowl&Wetland Trust’s Associate Director and Senior Consultant discussed different projects of interest and took on board the recommendations from the Tourism Board based on what they felt remained urgent projects that would enhance key tourism attractions of Seychelles.

The rehabilitation of the marsh of the island of La Digue was discussed, as this remains a big area linking the new Domaine de L’Orangerie Resort Complex to L’Union Estate through a network of drains and features. The rehabilitation of such a marsh would diminish the risk of floods in the plateau of La Digue, and also provide for the natural setting for birds, migratory fowls, and the La Digue Unique terrapins.

“The old marsh of La Digue could become a feature we can market as an attraction, and it could provide for a new excursion for the Diguois to take their visitors to. La Digue remains a key tourism destination in Seychelles, and the more we can work with partners to enhance our existing habitats, the more complete a destination we shall be," said Alain St.Ange.

Rebecca Woodward, Marie Orchard, and Paul Bond also met with different other agencies and government departments including the Ministry of Environment while in Seychelles.

The WWT consulting team also agreed to provide their conference room in London for a Seychelles Tourism Board’s press conference in October when the Seychelles PR&News Bureau is to be formally set up in the UK.
