Seychelles and La Reunion cooperate on staff development program

Seychelles and La Reunion cooperate on staff development program ( Seychelles and La Reunion have started a staff exchange program as part of cooperation between the two islands that form part of the Vanilla Islands group.
Two staff from the Seychelles Tourism Board – Eileen Hoareau and Nathalie Pillay – have just returned home from a week long attachment at the Institut Regional du tourisme (L’IRT) on the sister island of La Reunion, as part of this program, which will now encourage such exchanges and also the sharing of information between the two islands.

Ms. Hoareau is a senior graphic designer at the Seychelles Tourism Board, and Ms. Pillay is responsible for the e-marketing section at the Seychelles Tourism Board.

During their stay in Reunion, guidelines for cooperation were discussed, as well as how to proceed with a brochure that sells “The Vanilla Islands – Seychelles and La Reunion.” There were also talks about the promotion of the Vanilla Islands concept on social networks such as Facebook where both La Reunion and Seychelles will appear alongside other islands of the group, notably Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte, and the Comoros.

The La Reunion tourism board has said that such exchanges will help nurture the kind of collaboration that is needed for the Vanilla Islands to grow and become what it intended to be.

Both Ms. Hoareau and Ms. Pillay have commended the efforts to bring the islands closer through such programs.

“It was a fruitful working visit in La Reunion, because it has allowed us to see how they work. In that way, we can both come together to highlight and include the Vanilla Islands concept in our respective work and networks,” they said.

The program is the result of recent meetings between Pascal Viroleau who heads La Reunion Tourism and Alain St. Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board. It must be noted that in Seychelles the island's President, Mr. James Michel currently personally holds the tourism portfolio and in La Reunion it is Mr. Didier Robert, the President de la Region who holds the tourism portfolio.
