Half Moon Withstands Hurricane Dean

( No Structural Damage to Famed Luxury Resort

Rose Hall, Jamaica (August 20, 2007) Managing Director of Half Moon Montego Bay, Richard Whitfield, reported that the 400-acre resort experienced only minimal effects following Hurricane Dean that passed over Jamaica on Sunday night.

A survey crew has assessed the property and has reported only some fallen trees, limbs and debris. There has been no physical damage to any structure or injury to any person.

The 400-acre resort was well prepared for the onslaught of Hurricane Dean. Guests and employees were sheltered at Half Moon’s 6,000 square foot conference center to wait out the storm. Chefs, maintenance, housekeeping, security and management team were on hand to ensure guests felt comfortable and secure as the storm passed.

Half Moon’s emergency management crew has begun removing debris left by the storm. The resort is still operational, and will be moving guests back into their rooms by this afternoon.

“While we were all anxious about the effects of Hurricane Dean, we were well prepared with our emergency management procedures and were in full gear to secure both lives and property,” Mr. Whitfield said.

Half Moon is a luxury resort situated on crescent-shaped white sand beaches, with 398 rooms including suites, cottages and villas. In addition to luxurious accommodations, Half Moon also features a recently renovated Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed 18-hole golf course, renowned David Leadbetter Golf Academy, 13 lit tennis courts, equestrian center, fitness center, superb cuisine, 51 swimming pools, recently constructed Anancy Children’s Village, water sports, Dolphin Lagoon, 24-hour medical center and more. In October, the resort will open the doors to the new $4 million dollar Fern Tree Spa, which will feature beachfront spa suites, water sculptures, hydrotherapy swimming pools, yoga pavilions, and therapeutic/healing spa treatments.
