Seychelles Ambassador calls on members of the Non-Aligned Movement to step-up involvement in fight against piracy (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles Ambassador based in New Delhi, India, Mr. Dick Esparon, has called upon the members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to adopt a more proactive role in the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, during a gathering last week.

The Ambassador was addressing a meeting of 119 countries at the XVI Conference and Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which took place in Bali, Indonesia, from May 23-27, 2011, where he headed a delegation representing Seychelles.

The conference served as a midterm Ministerial Conference and provided the opportunity to review the developments and implementation of the decision made at the 15th summit of NAM in Sharm El Sheikh Egypt in 2009, evaluating the latest international developments, particularly those related to the issues of interest for NAM member countries, and assessed the achievements made so far in the process of revitalizing and strengthening of the NAM since the first summit.

The theme of the meeting was “shared vision on the contribution of NAM for the next 50 years.”

During his address, the Ambassador also invited NAM to continue in its quest to tackle the various issues relating to climate charge, more specifically the phenomenon of sea-level rise given its eminent threat that it poses to small island states.

Ambassador Esparon was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Indonesia, Mr. Nico Barito, and the Desk Officer for Indonesia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Christian Faure.

The next NAM Ministerial Conference is projected to be held in Tehran, Iran next year.
