Third Seychelles Regatta unfurl its sails ( The annual Seychelles Regatta is an important component of Seychelles' growing suite of events and a great example of event-based tourism, which lies at the core of the Seychelles' brand of tourism. The regatta showcases Seychelles as an ideal, year-round sailing destination offering amazing diversity and grand natural beauty, all located outside the cyclone belt. Seychelles was conceived, it is often said, with sailors in mind because of the most picturesque setting for any sailing regatta.

This year's Seychelles Regatta is spread over nine days - from May 21-29 -with the official opening ceremony held on Saturday, May 21 at 6:00 pm at Eden Island, preceded by a briefing with all the skippers and crew of the 7 boats at 11am of the same day, followed by a press conference at 12:00 noon. The first race takes place on Sunday, May 22 from Eden Island to Anse à La Mouche on the island of Mahe. On Monday, May 23, the sailors will sail from Anse à La Mouche to Beau Vallon on the north side of the island of Mahe and on Tuesday to Anse Lazio beach on the island of Praslin. On Wednesday, May 25, the race will be from Anse Lazio to Baie Ste Anne also on the island of Praslin, followed by a leg from Baie Ste Anne to the island of La Digue on Thursday, May 26. The 6th race on Friday, May 27 will be from La Digue Island to Ile Chauve Souris Island off Praslin and, to conclude the 7 days of sailing, the teams will race from Praslin to Eden Island at Mahe, which they have to reach before 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 28. The closing ceremony is set for 7:00 pm the same day at the Konoba Restaurant in front of Eden Island.

Among the world-class skippers expected to show here are: Frenchman Michel Desjoyeaux; English woman Samantha Davies who will skipper the all-female Heineken team with Servane Escoffier; popular French skipper Loïck Peyron who will sail the Maia boat after winning the Barcelona double-handed round-the-world race on April 4; French rising star François Gabart winner of the Solo offshore sailing in 2010; Armel Le Cléac'h; Jérémie Beyou;and Romain Attanasio.
