Seychelles participates at Lusaka tourism meeting

Seychelles participates at Lusaka tourism meeting ( Monday, May 16, saw the official opening of the 5th African Conference for the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT), which is being held in Lusaka in Zambia. Seychelles is being represented at the meeting by Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, who is scheduled to take the floor on Tuesday to deliver a keynote address on Developmental, Cultural, and Partnering Perspectives using Seychelles as the case study. Mr. St.Ange is being accompanied at the Zambia Conference by Glynn Burridge, a Consultant at the Seychelles Tourism Board.

The opening ceremony of the Lusaka meeting was chaired by HE Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the President of the Republic of Zambia, in the presence of the country's founding President, HE Mr. Kenneth D. Kaunda; Zambia's Minister for Tourism, Environment, and Natural Resources, the Hon. Catherine Namugala, MP; the Hon. Walter Mzembi, MP, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality from the Republic of Zimbabwe; members of the Cabinet of Ministers from Zambia; Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Zambia; Mr. Louis D'Amore, the President of IIPT; delegates to the conference; and participants.

“Peace and stability" has been echoed by all who took to the podium at the opening ceremony of the conference as being the essential necessity for a solid tourism industry. The official ceremony was followed by the first plenary session on Global Perspectives on Tourism and Climate Change, which was chaired by the Hon. Catherine Namugala.

Alain St.Ange took the opportunity of the conference to meet with the Zambian President, HE Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda. “The President told me during our discussion that he had made a transit stop in Seychelles and that he was looking forward to getting to know our islands," Alain St.Ange said to the press after meeting with President Banda.
