The king to patronize “Restored National Antiquities” Exhibition next year

The king to patronize “Restored National Antiquities” Exhibition next year ( The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz, will patronize the “Restored National Antiquities” exhibition, which will be held in the National Museum.

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) will organize the exhibition as a part of the Al Janadriyah National festival for Heritage and Cultural 2012, said His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of SCTA, in a press statement.

HRH President of SCTA stated that the gracious patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques comes in line with his persistent awareness of the importance of their rich national heritage. HRH added that organization of this exhibition is based on the importance of recovering national archeological objects, which were taken outside the kingdom.

The exhibition will include two parts: a section for recovered antiquities from inside the kingdom, and another section for recovered antiquities from outside the kingdom. The event will also include a seminar on the recovered antiquities in which a number of international and national experts will take part in.

HRH President of SCTA added that SCTA has lately made great efforts to recover a number of national antiquities, referring to the recovery of 14 archeological objects from outside the kingdom, among which were the objects taken away during excavation works made by foreign expeditions and some of which had disappeared for 50 years. Work is underway with the relevant authorities within and outside the kingdom this year to recover several more objects in order to be showcased in the next exhibition.

HRH urged everyone inside and outside the kingdom who may have archeological objects with them that belonged to the kingdom, possessed through illegal means, to cooperate with SCTA for their recovery and showcasing in this exhibition, which will be seen as a national duty contributing in the service of the kingdom's heritage and culture.
