India assists Seychelles with opening its first ICT Center of Excellence

India assists Seychelles with opening its first ICT Center of Excellence ( Seychelles President Mr. James Michel has inaugurated the Seychelles-India Centre for Information Communication Technology (ICT) Excellence, at Mont-Fleuri on the island of Mahe. The ceremony was attended by the Indian High Commissioner to Seychelles Asit Kumar Nag and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles Dr. Rolph Payet.

The Indian High Commissioner said that the event is an important milestone in the bilateral relations between India and Seychelles. Mr. Nag said that in the present day world, information technology, cyber highway, Internet, e-commerce, and e-education are increasingly becoming an integral part of human activity.

“Mr. President, your far-sighted vision aimed at the objective of human resource development and infrastructure building for Seychelles gave birth to the idea of setting up of this IT center. India on its part feels it [is] honored to be of assistance in [the] setting up of this center, not only with technical expertise but also with various other inputs including equipment,” said High Commissioner Nag during his address.

The learning center will host courses in various fields of ICT for S5 secondary school students up to studies for entrance to university-level courses.

President James Michel said that the development of ICT learning in Seychelles at all levels of education, forms part of his vision for a knowledge-based society, and that the inauguration of this project, as well as the primary school IT learning project, will give young people the opportunity to start living this vision.

“This project forms part of my proactive diplomacy, and today we can see one of the foundations for Seychelles to reach out into the future and make the Vision 2020 become a reality,” said President Michel following the ceremony.
