Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation 2011 in mind, Hawaii looks to international markets

Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation 2011 in mind, Hawaii looks to international markets ( HONOLULU, Hawaii – With Hawaii hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leader’s Meeting in November 2011, local companies looking to connect with international opportunities will have a new tool at their disposal. The Hawaii Pacific Export Council has launched a new website designed to help Hawaii businesses looking to export their products and services internationally. The site features news on export topics, information on upcoming trade events, export resources for businesses, and will feature APEC-related activities open to local companies. The new site can be accessed at .

As several APEC-related activities for Hawaii companies begin to take shape in the coming months, the new website will be updated with the latest events and market information. The Hawaii Pacific Export Council (HPEC) launched the site to be a reliable source of export information that can assist small businesses interested in pursuing international sales. With local businesses seeking to learn more about the 21 APEC market economies and leverage Hawaii’s host status for new overseas opportunities, the timing of the website’s launch is good.

The Hawaii Pacific Export Council will also be rolling out a training program called Export University that is designed to train local companies how to develop an international business strategy and find buyers worldwide. “The goal of both the website and Export U is to provide useful resources for companies wanting to expand and export from Hawaii,” said John Holman, HPEC Executive Secretary and Director of the Hawaii Export Assistance Center.

For more than 30 years, District Export Councils have served the United States by assisting companies within their districts to export their products and services internationally. District Export Councils began in 1973 when President Nixon directed the Secretary of Commerce to establish the District Export Council network throughout the United States to stimulate greater participation in the national export effort. The Hawaii Pacific Export Council is a non-profit organization and one of 56 Export Councils nationwide comprised of local leaders and international business professionals who provide support and assistance to companies looking to export internationally.
