Anantara Kihavah Villas in Maldives certified Green Globe
Mr. Guido Bauer, CEO Green Globe Certification said, “On no other location on Earth, can the impact of climate change be seen so dramatically. For over a decade, coral bleaching events have decimated the reef’s fragile eco-system. Acting as a guardian for their unique marine location, Anantara Kihavah Villa is at the forefront of preserving and reintroducing corals to support this marine habit.”
“Certification of Kihavah Villas is confirmation of the efforts throughout the resort to manage tourism in a responsible manner, while actively improving and protecting their spectacularly beautiful destination,” added Mr. Bauer.
“Anantara is committed to sustainable tourism operations through the integration of social and ecological responsibilities into our core business operations,” Mr. Peter Carmichael, Senior Vice President, Anantara said. “We view the fragile environment in the Baa Atoll island archipelago in a very serious light and our proactive ethical and environmentally friendly practices during the construction of Anantara Kihavah Villas are testament to this.
“We are actively engaged in our adherence to the Green Globe Certification standards by introducing innovative technological measures that contribute to the preservation of the fragile ecosystem of the Maldives, and acting each day on both an individual and company level to minimize the impact that our business activities have on the environment,” said Mr Carmichael.
Anantara Kihavah Villas is committed to responsible tourism to create better places for people to live in and better places to visit. During the construction of the resort, a marine biologist nurtured small coral and created coral gardens in various areas of the lagoon by attaching the growing corals on frames. This conservation effort proved to be very successful and the initial results can already be seen around the island. Guests can also partake in this on-going project by adopting a coral frame and participating in the creation and planting thereof. The frames are positioned between the resort’s Over Water Pool Villas in the shape of Anantara Resorts’ “A," thus creating an artificial snorkeling trail. Coral Adoption Program sponsors can monitor the growing process on their adopted frame on a custom-designed website.
