- The new destinations strengthen Iberia’s position in Eastern Europe

Madrid, August 2nd, 2007
Iberia will launch flights to Prague and Warsaw on October 28th, the first day of the winter season. The Spanish airline will thus strengthen its position in Eastern Europe, where it flies to Moscow, and added a new route to Bucharest last March and another to St. Petersburg in June.

Iberia will operate five weekly flights between Madrid and Prague, and will link the Polish and Spanish capital cities with four weekly flights. In Madrid, passengers from Prague and Warsaw can make connections to Iberia’s other 35 Spanish destinations, to Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, or to the airline’s overseas destinations in Africa, the United States, and Latin America, including such cities as Dakar, Johannesburg, Lagos, Buenos Aires, Havana, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo.

The aircraft used on the new flights will be 171-seat Airbus A320s, equipped with the European Business Class.

In addition to Prague and Warsaw, the Iberia’s new destinations in the past year include Gibraltar, Algiers, Bucharest, Boston, St. Petersburg, and Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, the airline has added frequencies to Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama in Central America, to Chicago, New York, and Miami in the United States, and to Moscow.

Today, Iberia is Spain’s leading airline and also leader on routes linking Europe with Latin America. It posted an operating income of about 5.4 billion euros, net earnings of 116.1 million euros and an Ebitdar of 790.5 million euros in 2006. It is also distinguished by its commitment to socially and environmentally responsible conduct. Along with its franchise partner Iberia Regional, Iberia operates some 1,000 flights each day to about 100 different destinations. Last year, Iberia carried a total of 33 million passengers. It is a member of the oneworld airline alliance, along with American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, JAL, LAN, Malev, Qantas and Royal Jordanian.
