‘Pirate’ radio broadcasting in Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airspace

( ISR ALPA and IFALPA RVP MIDWEST, Capt. Zvi Rosenberg are warning that due to interference from a number of illegal so called pirate radio stations which broadcast in the vicinity of Ben Gurion Airport (LLBG) in Israel. In recent months the situation has worsened with the pirate transmissions frequently blocking air / ground communications. In recent weeks the problem has become so severe that the airport has had to cease operations for hours at time due to pirate radio broadcasts.

ISR ALPA and the Israeli Air Traffic Controllers Association have approached the government individually and jointly to demand that effective measures are brought to remove the threat to safe air navigation.
So far without result.

Therefore it seems likely that the situation will continue for the immediate and foreseeable future. Accordingly IFALPA recommends that all pilots operating in the airspace around Ben Gurion expect interrupted transmissions, delays and diversions until such time as the problem has been resolved.
