Inuaguration of the University of Seychelles

Inuaguration of the University of Seychelles (Forimmediaterelease.net) Students and faculty at the University of Seychelles will shortly welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at their main campus at Anse Royale for the official inauguration of the University.

On Monday, November 29, 2010, the President of the Republic of Seychelles Mr. James Alix Michel and HRH Princess Anne will inaugurate the newly-created University of Seychelles.

The University of Seychelles, which opened its doors on September 17, 2009, now has over 300 hundred students studying for over 12 degree programs. The University of Seychelles has an ongoing partnership with the University of London International Program, The University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, the University of Edith Cowan, and the University of La Reunion.

The University of Seychelles was announced by President James Michel during his 2007 National Day speech. It forms part of the President's vision to create a knowledge-based society. The University of Seychelles (UniSey) is the country's national University offering degree and research programs.

Some 500 guests will attend this historic and auspicious event. The University of Seychelles will be graced with the presence of academic dignitaries from around the globe. Sir Graeme Davis, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of London; the President of the University of Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne, Professor Jean-Claude Colliard; and President of the University of Reunion, Professor Mohamed Rochdi are among those attending.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Dr. Rolph Payet, noted that “UniSey is honored and privileged to welcome HRH Princess Anne to the University," noting that this is undeniably, “history in the making." Honored alumni of the University of London, Dr. Rolph Payet, is delighted that the Princess Royal, who is also Chancellor of the University of London, will participate in one of the most significant historical achievements in modern Seychelles.

Dr. Payet has paid tribute to President James Michel, the Chancellor of the University, who had the vision and determination to establish Seychelles' very own university. He has saluted all those who have invested so much effort and who have committed themselves towards the creation of the University of Seychelles. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles, Dr. Rolph Payet, has also paid grateful thanks to the students, especially the pioneers, who he says “have been the most supportive."
