Halloween attracts Asian tourists

Halloween attracts Asian tourists ( “Hello, we are coming for Halloween. Tell us more about that day, as we don’t have it in Japan,” a tourist wrote to Pacific Islands Club Saipan’s sales office. This all-inclusive resort in the Pacific is known as one of the best places in the region to experience this fun, western holiday. For PIC, Halloween is not only an exciting event and a possibility to attract more customers, but it’s also an opportunity to help its Asian customers learn more about this popular and highly unique western tradition on October 31 of every year.

PIC actively involves its staff in the preparation for Halloween. Employees team up to participate in the annual Pumpkin Carving Contest, which is later prominently displayed in the restaurants and bars as they provide a festive mood and attract attention. The best pumpkin carvers receive prizes for their artistic efforts. Various department staff enjoy decorating their specific work areas in a scary theme and to dress in costume on Halloween night. At the hotel, front desk customers are greeted with traditional Halloween candy.

The first encounter of Halloween for the hotel guests is the official Trick-or-Treat. On October 28, 29, and 30, the resort’s younger guests, as well as guests from other island hotels, have the chance to make their own costume. They then go Trick-or-Treating around the PIC property together with their parents and the hotel friendly animators (Clubmates, as they are called here).

On October 31 throughout the day, guests join the Clubmates in the special Halloween activities, such as the Monster Candy Relay, Broken Bone Stick Game, Gruesome Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest, and Scary Clown Make-Up Contest.

However, PIC savors the best for night. The celebration begins with the Haunted House, with dark rooms full of evil clowns, ghastly characters from popular horror movies, vampires, ghosts, zombies, and other scary things that go bump in the night. PIC’s Clubmates design the Haunted House and become the live creatures that scream, roar, crawl, and jump out of the dark. The staff truly enjoys one of their most enjoyable nights of work. After the Haunted House, the hotel guests and local visitors participate in PIC’s annual Costume Contest at the resort’s theater. Both kids and adults receive prizes for the best Halloween costume, which is selected by the audience. The night ends with a high energy Halloween dance show, also performed by the Clubmates. Guests enjoy watching snippets from popular horror films as they watch Frankenstein and Dracula on stage in addition to zombies dancing Michael Jackson's “Thriller” as the finale.
