Seychelles First Lady Natalie Michel attends First Ladies Summit in Kuala Lumpur ( First Ladies from around the, world, including Mrs. Natalie Michel from the Seychelles have gathered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to participate in the First Ladies Summit 2010, from October 11-13, 2010, with the aim of launching a global initiative to empower children to lead change.

The theme of the Summit is “A Child Today, A Leader Tomorrow” and it focuses attention on ways in which families, communities, and governments can work together to uncover the potential in every child.

The First Ladies will, in the spirit of cooperation, engage in dialogue sessions on enriching the formative years, empowering children with life skills, and creating enabling environments that can nurture leaders. They will identify and establish joint platforms for action in areas of formal and non-formal education, and child protection.

Preceding the summit will be a meeting of senior ministers and top government officials and Seychelles is being represented by the Minister for Social Development and Culture, Mr. Bernard Shamlaye. Their discussion sessions, which will focus on three broad areas for leadership and development, will be moderated by international experts and will form the basis for a draft declaration for consideration and adoption by the First Ladies.

Mrs. Michel, who is heading the delegation, is being accompanied by the principal secretary for Social Development, Mrs. Linda William and Mrs. Noella Gontier, the chief executive officer of the Children’s Homes Foundation.
