Kenya Airways commences flights to Luanda, Angola

Kenya Airways commences flights to Luanda, Angola ( NAIROBI, Kenya - Leading African airline Kenya Airways has commenced service to Luanda, the capital city of Angola. The addition of the new route furthers the Kenya Airways corporate initiative of linking major African cities with the rest of the world. Luanda marks the carrier’s 50th destination globally and the 41st in Africa. Business and leisure travelers will find shorter connection time to the rest of Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Far East through the airline’s hub at the JKIA in Nairobi.

According Dr Titus Naikuni, the airline’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Angola is an important destination for the airline because of its rising economic importance as a trading partner for several African and European countries. Driven by the strong and rapidly growing oil and tourist industries, the nation has been referred to as the “Brazil of Africa.” Dr. Naikuni stressed that Kenya Airways will continue to relentlessly pursue its growth objective by adding new routes to its network and improving efficiency on existing ones. “We are doing this by adding new aircraft and establishing additional frequencies on the high traffic routes to ensure we offer more alternative flights to our customers,” he stated. “We expect that by the end of the year, we will have taken delivery on two long-range Embraer 190LRs to serve our regional routes.”

Kenya Airways will operate the route on a code share agreement with Angolan Airlines (TAAG) twice a week, every Tuesday and Friday. The airline has been helping passengers with processing visas to Angola in view of the fact that Kenya does not have an Angolan embassy. To celebrate the launch of the new destination, Kenya Airways has priced the inaugural flight at USD 50, a special fare incentive that has generated excitement in the aviation marketplace.
