Tourism Ball in Seychelles to become annual event for World Tourism Week (Forimmediaterelease.net) Seychelles organized a succesful Tourism Ball as part of World Tourism Day (WTD), and it was the opportunity for government Officials to mix with the island's tourism industry players.

World Tourism Day (WTD), which is marked annually on September 27, has this year been given more prominence in Seychelles. The week's celebrations was launched by Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board and eTurboNews ambassador, at 2010 Tourism Ball. The country's tourism CEO said that the event would now be placed on the Seychelles Calender of Events alongside September's “Creole Festival," October's “SUBIOS - The Seychelles Underwater Festival," and March's “Seychelles, Carnaval International de Victoria."

This year's Tourism Ball saw the presence of Sir James Mancham, Seychelles First President; Mr. Vincent Meriton, the island's Designated Minister; and Ministers Bernard Shamlaye and Erna Athanasius, ministers responsible for culture and health, respectively; Ambassador Barry Faure, the Secretary of State in the President's Office and also Chairman of the Seychelles Tourism Board and the number two person of the Russian Embassy in Seychelles. Alain St.Ange said that the hundreds to attended the Tourism Ball demonstrated their support and their commitment to the tourism industry of Seychelles, the industry that remains the pillar of the Seychelles economy. Alain St.Ange said in his opening address that tourism meant different things to different people, but for Seychelles it was the pillar of the country's economy and as such it needed the support of every serious industry player. Alain St.Ange also used the opportunity to reiterate the “Seychelles Brand" vision launched by President James Michel a few weeks ago. St.Ange said that this Seychelles style of tourism would be centered on people and that it would ensure that Seychelles claims back its tourism industry.

Minister Vincent Meriton, who delivered a message to the Tourism Ball 2010 on behalf of President James Michel and who also holds the tourism portfolio, said that the Seychelles government stands behind the tourism industry and that government would be with the industry in this new era that is transforming the Seychelles tourism industry. Minister Meriton said that the Tourism Ball, a people's event, was a first position action coming out of the “Seychelles Brand" vision launched by the head of state and that this would be followed by the Seychelles 2011 “Carnaval International de Victoria" set to take place on March 4-6 next year.

The Tourism Ball and a Tourism Expo, held under the WTD 2010 theme of Tourism and Biodiversity, as declared by the World Tourism Organization, will mark World Tourism Week 2010.
