Seychelles highlights China-Africa Forum as a model for development (Forimmediaterelease.net) NEW YORK, NY - Seychelles Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Paul Adam, has highlighted the positive role that the China-Africa Forum for Development can play as a “model for development" as part of the ongoing review of the best mechanisms to achieve sustainable development for the world. Minister Adam was speaking at the Second Political Consultation between China and African Ministers of Foreign Affairs being held in the margins of the 65th session of the United Nations Assembly in New York.

In his remarks, Minister Adam hailed the pragmatism and results-orientated approach taken by the People’s Republic of China towards fostering development in Africa: “Africa is regrettably very familiar with the gap between pledges and actions. In analyzing the success of our cooperation, we can note with satisfaction, that the China Africa Forum has built a sturdy bridge over this gap.”

The Minister also highlighted the concerns of Seychelles with regards to the ongoing efforts to combat climate change and piracy. On climate change, Seychelles has consistently highlighted the need for adaptation funds to be fast tracked. On piracy, Seychelles welcomed the contribution of China to security in the region and also called for more resources to be allocated to the fight against piracy by the international community.

Seychelles has also offered examples of how China and Africa can cooperate on technology transfer: “We believe that China and Africa have an ideal opportunity to work together to set an example for the world on best practices eco-friendly technology transfer, to enhance the development of renewable energy. I am pleased to inform this forum that Seychelles and China have already begun discussions on a landmark project to harness solar and biogas power,” the Minister remarked.
