Louis D'Offay heads Seychelles tourism delegation attending Iles Vanille meeting in Mauritius

Louis D'Offay heads Seychelles tourism delegation attending Iles Vanille meeting in Mauritius (Forimmediaterelease.net) A delegation from Seychelles’ tourism industry is in Mauritius to join with colleagues from Mauritius, La Reunion, and Madagascar to attend a meeting that is being held for tourism operators of the Indian Ocean islands destinations.

The Seychelles delegation is being led by the chairman of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHTA), Louis D’Offay, who is also a board member of the Seychelles Tourism Board. Other delegates include Eric Renard from Creole Travel Services, Derek Savy from Elite Travel, Lenny Alvis from Mason’s Travel, Priscille Tuher from Air Seychelles and Gilbert Pool, the Editor of the O I Zone (Indian Ocean Zone) Magazine.

Organized under the umbrella of the UCCOI with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, the meeting is in line with the new tourism concept for the Indian Ocean Islands region – “Vanilla Islands” – that the tourism directors of Seychelles, Madagascar, Reunion, and Mauritius agreed on as part of their marketing plan in a meeting held in La Reunion last month.

The aim of this meeting is to bring tourism operators from the four destinations together for them to network and plan the way forward to market the destinations as a tourism region. This is a platform of interaction that will allow the tourism operators to understand the mechanisms required for a multi-destination package, exchange information, and foster a better knowledge on Indian Ocean travel, as well as work on future cooperation among themselves.

The chief executive officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) and eTurboNews ambassador, Alain St.Ange, who is being represented at the Mauritius meeting by Mr. Louis D'Offay, has expressed the importance of this meeting to the region, and to the country.

“We have been working with the UCCOI and the tourism offices of the region to reposition the Indian Ocean Islands as a region with a strong cultural identity,” said Mr. St.Ange, adding: “This endeavor will, we hope, help to conquer new segments of our tourism market and assist with the opening of new markets.

“All the islands of the Indian Ocean have their own natural attractions, which when combined brings added pull for possible visitors from not only our main markets in Europe, but also from new and emerging markets.”

Mr. Louis D'Offay will be using the opportunity of that meeting to push for a resolution for the “Iles Vanille” Concept to be adopted so that it can be presented to the UCCOI Forum, which will be held in Seychelles in October. UCCOI is the grouping of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Indian Ocean Islands and it is expected that Tourism Ministers from this group of islands will be invited to also be invited to be in Seychelles for the October forum.

Gilbert Pool, the publisher and editor of the O I Zone (Indian Ocean Zone) Magazine, is hoping to present to the meeting a proposal for his glossy magazine to become the “Iles Vanille” Magazine that could become an essential tool to tell the world the unique selling points of each island of the Island Ocean islands.
