Seychelles president calls for Seychelles-India air links

Seychelles president calls for Seychelles-India air links (Forimmediaterelease.net) President James Michel has called for India and Seychelles to establish air links in order to boost trade, commerce, and tourism between the two countries.

The statement was made during the President’s address to a meeting with the Indian business community, as represented by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

“Flights between these Indian cities and Mahé can be established. The business communities of both countries can exchange visits on a more frequent basis and for mutual benefits. The negotiations later this month of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between our two countries will surely open the window to the increase in exchanges between our two countries for business, greater people to people contacts, and tourism,” said President Michel.

The President told Indian investors of the benefits of investing in Seychelles, saying that the social, religious, and racial cohesion of the Seychellois people create “the ideal climate for an investment friendly environment." The President also stressed the importance of the Seychelles’ environmental protection record as a key attraction to doing business in Seychelles.

“The pristine environment and government’s strong stance on environmentally-sustainable development has been our trademark and has lured many investors and visitors alike to our beautiful shores,” said President Michel.

President Michel also noted that members of the Seychelles business community who had traveled to India for talks had been successful in re-establishing relations and would promote future investment and exchanges.

“I am happy that the newly-elected Seychelles Chamber of Commerce has decided to reinvigorate their relations with the Indian chambers of commerce and industry and to bring new life to the Joint Business Council that was established over a decade ago,” said President Michel.

Members of the Seychelles business delegation also had an opportunity to meet and discuss with the ASSOCHAM, CII, and FICCI ways to improve their relations. The Seychelles business delegation was headed by the chief executive officer of the Seychelles Investment Bureau, Mrs. Sherin Renaud.

“I think there are a lot of opportunities for investment and business exchanges between India and Seychelles. During this visit, we have been able to break the ice, and this will make it easier to do business, have exchange visits, and benefit from the vast experience of India’s business community. There has been significant interest expressed in possibilities for investment in the energy sector, commerce, and ICT; which are all areas where India excels and Seychelles could benefit from these. President Michel’s participation in the meeting shows the commitment of the Seychelles to expanding business relations with India,” said Mrs. Sherin Renaud.
