Dolce Munich Unterschleißheim: A perfect start for the new hotel between airport and city

( “In my opinion, there is no better hotel in the vicinity of Munich Airport…“ – this is how a frequent traveler, who stayed at the Dolce Munich Unterschleißheim during the start-up phase, rates the new conference and congress hotel. “Since our soft opening in early March, we have already had more than 2,500 satisfied conference and overnight guests. Many of them used the popular Internet portals to give us positive ratings,” says Managing Director Paul C. van Wijk. One of the first event highlights was a function hosted by aerospace company EADS Deutschland GmbH. The first VIPs have also already stayed at the four-star-plus hotel: at the end of March, the VfB Stuttgart soccer team checked in, and in mid-April the team of Olympique Lyon.

Ceremonial act with international guests, blessing, and maypole

On Friday, April 30, 2010, the seven-storey hotel celebrated its official grand opening – barely one and a half years after the foundation stone was laid for the building on the 10,000 square meter premises in Andreas-Danzer-Weg 1. The glamorous ceremonial act and the evening reception with the subsequent “Dance into May“ – including a traditional maypole – was hosted by Kathie Kleff, presenter of the “Antenne Bayern am Vormittag“ radio show, who entertained the roughly 500 guests.

Company founder Andy Dolce and Steven A. Rudnitsky, President and Chief Executive Officer Dolce Hotels and Resorts, made the journey from the USA especially to attend this event, and were accompanied by their whole management team. The general managers of the Dolce Hotels in four European countries were also present. In his speech, Rudnitsky emphasized that the strong presence illustrates the importance of the Dolce Munich Unterschleissheim as the 26th destination in the group’s portfolio. After all, the company continued to expand while many other market participants were rather cautious due to the difficult economic situation. In the past 18 months alone, Dolce took over and/or opened three new locations in the USA and Europe.

Representing the state of Bavaria, District President of Upper Bavaria, Christoph Hillenbrand, praised the project as outstanding: „Not only the city of Unterschleißheim benefits from this investment. The project provides 120 new jobs and additional apprenticeship training positions. Thus the whole region, which is already economically very successful, gains even more attractiveness.“

In his speech, developer and investor Andreas Striebel expressed his delight over the fact that the vision of a large conference center in Unterschleißheim had now become reality. He stressed that the objective for all involved parties now was to become the number 1 conference hotel in the greater Munich area – the first two months of operation were already very promising with a lot of positive feedback. Rolf Zeitler, the mayor of Unterschleißheim, agreed: “Today, what belongs together, comes together: with the Dolce Hotel, the BallhausForum is given the extension that was planned right from the start. This unique link between both establishments will no doubt open up a new era in terms of profitable synergies!”

The traditional blessing was given by Dean Franz Muck, vicar of St. Ulrich, and Reverend Thomas Lotz from the Genezareth parish: they asked God to bless the Hotel Dolce, all those responsible for the establishment, its employees, and guests.

The American hotel group wants to set new standards in the MICE and leisure market with the largest state-of-the-art conference location in the north of Munich. Together with the BallhausForum conference center, the destination offers a total of 23 flexible meeting rooms on an area spanning 4,700 square meters. This includes the private “Zugspitze“ Sky Lounge with views over the Alps, a ballroom, and the generous auditorium (1,342 square meters) with its glass roof. Other features that have been announced include e-coffee lounges, a concierge in the conference area, high-speed Internet, print on demand from guests’ own laptops, and modern team building concepts. Overall, the hotel boasts 255 elegant rooms and suites of varying sizes.

Dolce Vital Spa, creative cuisine, extraordinary design

Both business and private guests can relax in the Dolce Vital Spa by Cinq Mondes: a wellness area with pool, four treatment rooms, and various saunas as well as products of the award-winning French Cinq Mondes spa brand from Paris. It combines special massages with ancient traditions and ceremonies from India, Siam, Maghreb, Japan, and China.

Under the management of chef de cuisine Jens Koppermann, gastronomy will play a key role. With his 21-strong team, Koppermann is responsible for the conference restaurant “Viktualien“ (220 seats), the à la carte restaurant ”Redox“ (40 seats), and the ”Stephan’s“ bar, which boasts an open fireplace. Koppermann describes his creations, such as ’Espresso of Bavarian mushroom with coconut shrimp’ and ’Cuts of braised honey pork belly with saffron-pumpkin puree’ and ’Bavarian apple-cinnamon sauce’ as ”creatively interpreted Bavarian basics with a modern twist.“ And the hotels’ atmosphere strives to give guests the same experience: the sophisticated interior creates accents with its very individual touch. It combines rural, regional elements with contemporary lifestyle based on plans by Hamburg-based architectural firm Joi-Design.
