(Forimmediaterelease.net) It was with disbelief that Cape Town Tourism learned of the Rovos Rail accident just outside of Pretoria on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Said Cape Town Tourism CEO, Mariette du Toit-Helmbold: “We would like to send our sincerest condolences to the families of the three deceased staff members and child, as well as to all passengers on board Rovos Rail and their employees. We wish all those injured a speedy recovery, and we urge any visitors to contact us should they need support and assistance in this time of distress.”“Yesterday’s accident was the first of its kind in Rovos Rails’ twenty-one-year tenure. They have an impeccable safety record and management program. We believe that investigations into the accident are underway, and we are confident that Rovos Rail will be able to overcome this tragic situation,” said Du-Toit Helmbold.
There were 55 passengers on board – predominantly foreign tourists from America, Germany, Britain, and France, as well 30 Rovos Rail employees.
