ELVIA Safety Barometer 2007 examines air travel trends
Low-cost airline tickets are en vogue: The ELVIA Safety Barometer 2007 confirms the trend to fly cheap. In this year’s survey, the percentage of people who had travelled with a low-cost airline rose by about 6 percent to 62.7 percent.
Low-priced and good quality
The interviewees care about which airline they chose. Regarding low-cost airlines, not only the price but also safety matters were evaluated as positive. No difference is seen regarding the safety of no-frills carriers and established airlines. 73.6 percent feel just as safe on board a low-cost airplane as onboard any other plane.
The only problem conceived is the limited to impossible change of reservation with low-cost carriers. Regardless of the low ticket price, this is a relevant criterion for more than half (55.1 percent) of the interviewees. Therefore, many low-cost carriers offer travel-cancellation insurances on their websites to minimise the financial risk of their customers in case they need to change or cancel the flight.
