SCTA launches the website of the 1st International Conference on Urban and Architectural Heritage ( The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has officially launched the web site of the First International Conference on Urban and Architectural Heritage in Islamic countries (FCUAHIC), which will be held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, during the period April 28-23, 2010 at King Faisal Hall at the Intercontinental Hotel, Riyadh.

Dr. Faisal Al-Mubarak, the executive director of the Conference, stated that the web site aims at introducing the conference and facilitating the opportunity to be a part of it. Dr. Al-Mubarak added that the site contains all the information related to this important event including latest news, reports on urban heritage, events, and topics. Dr. Al-Mubarak pointed out that a special section will be devoted to the current conference and the heritage sites in Saudi Arabia, besides an urban heritage photo gallery. The web site includes online forms for registration, attendance, submittal of research papers, and a copy of the guide of preserving urban heritage in GCC.

On the other hand, Dr. Al-Mubarak pointed out that the conference aims to assess the current status of the urban and architectural heritage in Islamic countries, as well as determining the future frameworks for developing the economic, social, and cultural aspects of urban heritage. In addition, the conference will highlight the importance of preserving and rehabilitating heritage buildings in city centers and restoring traditional villages. And finally, the conference is aiming at utilizing the economic role of urban heritage in Islamic countries and the integration of efforts between the relevant authorities related to urban heritage in the Islamic countries, highlighting the social benefits, economic returns, and increasing job opportunities in conserving and resorting urban buildings, villages, and heritage sites.

SCTA is organizing the conference in collaboration with several private and public sectors such as Ministries of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Finance, Media and Information, King Saud University, Al-Turath Foundation, as well as international entities such as IRCICA, UNWTO, and the Arab urban Development Institute.
