TourCrafters designs food-lovers' package to Bologna

TourCrafters designs food-lovers' package to Bologna ( TourCrafters has put together a 6-day/5-night fall package to Bologna that starts at only US$1,109 and should thrill those who consider themselves “foodies." Yes, historic Bologna has charming porticoed streets, medieval palaces, 12th-century towers, Renaissance art treasures, and one of Europe's oldest universities. However, its real attraction is its cucina, or cuisine, for Bologna is the culinary capital of Italy.

TourCrafters' package, valid from September 1 to November 30, includes the basics: round-trip air transportation on Alitalia from New York to Bologna, five nights' accommodation in the Hotel Orologio, buffet breakfast daily, service charges and taxes, a guided walking tour on Sunday, and a free open-top sightseeing bus tour. In addition, it provides a four-hour cooking course — with lunch — at La Vecchia Scuola Bolognese that focuses on pasta dishes (remember spaghetti Bolognese?). And it includes a dinner at the celebrated Ristorante Cesari, about which one Trip Advisor reviewer raved, “the greatest Italian food I have ever eaten."

The small, charming, and well-located 3-star Hotel Orologio is the hotel of choice for the basic price of US$1,279 from September 1 to October 31 and US$1,109 from November 1 to 30. But hotel upgrades are available, right up to the elegant 4-star palace hotel Corona d'Oro, in the historic center, which costs US$1,372 in September/October and US$1,202 in November. Add-on air fares start at US$20 from Boston, US$75 from Miami, and US$75 from Chicago.

All prices quoted are per person, double occupancy, are subject to availability, and do not include airport taxes of US$110 and a fuel surcharge of US$240, which are not included in the quoted price because they are subject to change by the airline. Reservations must be paid for within 72 hours of booking.
