Parkhotel Adler - personal service, family atmosphere and centuries-old tradition

Parkhotel Adler - personal service, family atmosphere and centuries-old tradition ( In the southern Black Forest in the idyllic town of Hinterzarten, Germany at the foot of the famous Adler ski-jump lies the 5-star hideaway Parkhotel Adler, member of the ‘Leading Small Hotels of the World’, steeped in tradition and set within an expansive park with its own helipad and small lake.

The hotel’s interesting history should not be overlooked. Even Marie Antoinette, the daughter of Maria Theresia and future queen of France, stayed here in 1770 on her way to Paris to meet her intended. In the evenings, the light shimmers warmly through the little bull’s-eye panes of the old Black
Forest mansion. “Our guests appreciate the personal service, the family atmosphere and the centuries old tradition,” beams hotel manager Katja Trescher, who with her husband James Newman runs the luxury hotel with great flair and enthusiasm. Indeed, she represents the 16th generation of her family to do so.

General Manager Olaf Galaburda also places very great importance on this personal service. In the carefree, relaxed feelgood atmosphere guests enjoy their well-earned escape from the everyday routine. This tranquillity is incredible. Fascinated, I listen to the silence at the open window. The twittering of a bird is all that chirps through the Black Forest mountain air.

The architectural charm of this romantic residence lies in the stylish blend of the historic and the modern. The Parkhotel Adler is unique in every way. No one room is the same as any other. Here a corner, there a bay, spacious suites with walk-in dressing rooms and snug country-style suites with hand-carved furniture and four-poster beds. Exquisite antiques add a special touch. The love of detail, from the rustic to the playful, from checked to floral, plus a delight in the out of the ordinary characterize the special ambience that radiates coziness and elegance and becomes a home from home.

With a hint of Asia about it, the imposing ‘Spa in the Park’ health and beauty pavilion extends over 1,200 square metres and offers every application that the stressed out body or soul could wish. Set out on two levels flooded with light
is a spacious swimming pool complex. With views of the park’s mighty old trees, it includes a countercurrent system, saunas, a steam bath, indoor and outdoor
jacuzzis and a fitness and beauty centre with a comprehensive array of traditional and oriental treatments, such as Hawaiian, cranial, balance and Ayurvedic singing bowl massages. Our recommendation: Book your applications in advance of your trip! The staff in the beauty section work with high quality products, such as those from La Prairie, Maria Galland and Thalgo. Other highlights include the individually designed earth and fire sauna with its typically Finnish Kelo wood that not only radiates a hint of the romance of camp fires and adventure, but also offers the maximum in relaxation and well-being, plus the exclusive cooperation with the renowned Erich Lexer Private Clinic, which performs aesthetic surgery of every kind and collaborates with Freiburg University Hospital.

Recuperate afterwards in the stylish ambience of the Parkhotel Adler and enjoy culinary temptations from renowned chef de cuisine Simon Bragg-Coulthard. After visiting the ‘Diva’ coffee house with its Art Nouveau design and tasty light delicacies, you can partake within the immediate vicinity of the hotel in other sporting activities such as golf, riding, mountain-biking or walking, while in Hinterzarten’s remodelled tennis centre with its all-weather indoor courts and a surface that is kind to the joints all enthusiastic fans of the sport are totally in their element. Well-being above the treetops of the Black Forest – an experience for all the senses.
