Edgewater aspires to new heights

( A major refurbishment program during January has transformed the conference room at Edgewater Resort in Lake Wanaka.

The refurbished room has been named ‘Summit’ after a hotly-contested internal staff competition. “The name draws inspiration from the nearby Mt. Aspiring and we’ve developed the tag line of ‘Aspiring to New Heights,’ which works well for our conference cliental,” said general manager Mr. Leigh Stock.

The room, located on the first floor, has views across Lake Wanaka and beyond to the Southern Alps. Summit now features 100 percent woolen carpet, fresh paint, new furniture, and state-of-the-art audio visual equipment. “Overall, the color tone is beige or off-white, which was chosen for two key reasons. One wanted to continue drawing our delegates’ attentions to the lakefront and spectacular scenery outside, and secondly, if they wish to theme the room, the background is subtle,” added Leigh.

Summit caters for up to 140 delegates. In addition, one-bedroom suites sometimes double as break-out rooms for conference delegates. These suites feature a roomy dining and living area with small kitchenette, and so they work well for small group meetings.

The refurbishment at Summit has been a significant investment for Edgewater Resort, part of an ongoing program of elevating resort amenities. Flat-screen TVs now feature in all delegates’ suites.

The 65 all-suite resort hotel is situated quite literally on the shores of Lake Wanaka, and this idyllic location offers delegates with a tranquil haven that has proven to re-energize the weariest of corporate warriors.

“By the time our conference guests leave us, they are noticeably more relaxed compared to when they arrived!” said Mr Stock. He attributes this to the spectacular environment. “The resort is spacious, and all guest rooms open out onto balconies or patios with magnificent views of the lake and mountains beyond.”

The resort holds a Qualmark four-and-a-half-star hotel grading and is a member of Select Hotels and Resorts International.

“We already attract some high-profile conference delegates, but this room will really give us a boost to attract new business,” added Leigh.
