Hawaii Tourism Authority awards US$1.7 million for 2009 Product Enrichment Programs
“The PEP program helps to enhance and diversify Hawaii’s tourism product by providing community-based events, experiences, and projects for our visitors and residents to enjoy,” said Lloyd Unebasami, interim president and chief executive officer of HTA. The programs that were awarded funding represent the diversity, culture, and values of Hawaii, while providing the “so much more Hawaii” experience for repeat guests to our islands.”
CPEP was created in 2002 as a partnership between HTA and the counties. Through the program, the four counties receive HTA funding for tourism product enrichment activities on their respective islands to support projects in the niche areas of agritourism, cultural tourism, ecotourism, edutourism, health and wellness tourism, and technotourism.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority was created in 1998 to ensure a successful visitor industry well into the future. Its mission is to strategically manage the growth of Hawaii’s visitor industry in a manner consistent with their economic goals, cultural values, preservation of natural resources, and community interests.
