( LOS ANGELES, CA, June 6, 2007 — The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) headquarters in Hong Kong recently announced the appointment of Mr. William Silvermintz as Regional Director–The Americas, effective June 4.
In his new role, Mr. Silvermintz will formulate and direct the HKTB’s marketing strategies throughout the region, contribute to the Board’s overall global planning, maintain the strong trade-partner network in the region, develop high-yield business, and act as the HKTB’s key regional spokesman with the media, trade and other bodies.

Mr. Silvermintz has more than 30 years of sales and marketing experience in the hospitality and travel industries. Before joining the HKTB, he worked four years for the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), and has had extensive experience in tourism destination marketing. As well as managing their regional marketing programs, he supervised the BTA’s regional sales and marketing teams in the United States and Canada.
The Americas, which includes the United States, Canada, South and Central America, is Hong Kong’s major long haul market region. It accounted for more than 1.6 million or 6.6% of total visitor arrivals in 2006, an increase of 4.2% over the previous year. During the first four months of 2007, arrivals from the region grew by 7.3% to more than 560,000.
