The Seychelles Tourism Board hosted their appreciation dinners for the Italian market to celebrate the successful closing of 2016

The Seychelles Tourism Board hosted their appreciation dinners for the Italian market to celebrate the successful closing of 2016 (Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles Tourism Board’s office in Italy organized two appreciation dinners in Rome and Milan to celebrate the positive outcome of the tourism arrivals in 2016 and to thank the Italian trade for the continuous support in promoting and selling the destination.

The first event was organized on January 11 in central Rome, at Flora Rooftop Terrace a beautiful location with a view on the old city. The Seychelles Tourism Board Manager for Italy and the region, Monette Rose was joined by the Seychelles Tourism Board Director for Europe Bernadette Willemin and Marketing Executive for Italy Yasmine Pocetti to host the successful event with a good turnout of participants both from the top Tour Operators of Central and Southern Italy and the Trade Media. The event also saw the participation of Mr. Lucio Spinelli, Vice Consul of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Seychelles for Italy. The seated dinner was the perfect occasion to thank the trade for the excellent year and to exchange views on how to improve the market; a special customized Seychelles themed cake was also offered to the guests.

The second appreciation dinner took place on January 12, 2017 at Pavarotti Restaurant, in the Duomo area of Milan and was hosted again by Mrs. Willemin and Ms. Rose, together with Seychelles Tourism Ambassador Federica Pugliese. The tour operators of Northern Italy participated in great numbers and were joined by the local trade media and airline representatives as well. The friendly and cozy atmosphere brought together the different point of views on how to develop and increase the sales on the destination and was the perfect occasion to meet all the partners together.

Italy performed well with an increase in arrivals of 5% with a total of almost 23, 000 Italians visiting the archipelago in 2016. This is the result of the hard work of the trade and the efforts of Office in Italy to keep the destination always visible. The good figures are also the result of a growing network of airlines serving the islands and great tourism development, such as the opening of Six Senses Félicité Islands and the refurbishing of Alphonse Island and Constance Lémuria Resort.

The Italian trade and media in both regions were updated on the changes taking place in Seychelles with regards to high profile tourism personalities. That is, Maurice Loustau-Lalanne replacing Alain St. Ange as minister at the helm of Seychelles tourism and how the trade and Seychelles Tourism board are looking forward to Minister Lalanne, a veteran of the tourism industry, bringing his extensive experience to bear. For their part the Seychelles Tourism board office in Italy and the trade from both cities has expressed their words of appreciation and thanks towards the outgoing Minister and send wishes of good luck and support towards his candidature for the UNWTO secretary General position which he has formally applied for.

The Seychelles Islands are today accessible as never before thanks to a steadily expanding network of airlines that includes a double-day service via Emirates; a combination of 14 weekly flights by Air Seychelles and its partner Etihad Airways; four direct weekly flights by Kenya Airways, four weekly flights by Ethiopian Airways; two weekly flights by Condor and two flights per week from La Reunion by Air Austral. As of 28th March 2017, Air Seychelles will upgrade its Paris service from three to four flights a week.

As of October 2016, Sri Lankan Airlines began operating to Seychelles with four weekly flights from Colombo. October 2016 also saw the inaugural flight of Turkish Airlines which now operates three times a week from Istanbul. In December 2016, Qatar Airways returned to Seychelles with seven weekly flights from Doha. These airlines provide Seychelles with the connectivity it needs to fuel its tourism industry and its plans to capture new markets while maintaining traditional ones.
