Seychelles tourism industry players join Qatar Airways team at Kempinski for event marking their arrival in the islands

Seychelles tourism industry players join Qatar Airways team at Kempinski for event marking their arrival in the islands ( Qatar Airways has now added the Seychelles to their list of 150 destination they now operate to, and on Monday night, the island's tourism trade rallied at the Kempinski Seychelles for the welcoming event showcasing cuisine from the different continents.

Dr. Hugh Dunleavy, Qatar Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, reminded everyone as he welcomed the Seychelles tourism trade and government officials, together with local dignitaries that Qatar Airways was in Seychelles to stay, and they were eager to work with Seychelles for the development of that route.

Present at the event were Alain St.Ange, Seychelles’ Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine; Gary Albert, Principal Secretary (PS) for Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine; Anne Lafortune, PS for Tourism; Sherin Francis, Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB); Captain David Savy, the Chairperson of the Civil Aviation Authority; Gilbert Faure, and the CEO of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority, as well as civil aviation, tourism and airline officials.

Minister Alain St.Ange said when he addressed the large number of tourism industry players that Qatar Airways could now safely say that they were part of the best airlines as they had the Seychelles on the routes they served. The minister thanked the team of Qatar Airways for working with the local authorities and he said that the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine would remain good facilitators for the airline as it is for all airlines flying to Seychelles. He appealed to Qatar Airways to look at a special trade rate to enable the industry players to work for the benefit of the Seychelles tourism industry. “We need our tourism industry professionals to get to key tourism source markets. Like a fisherman needing to get to a fishing bank to fish, the tourism industry needs to get to source markets if we want the Seychelles tourism industry to grow," the minister said.

Qatar Airways is operating seven flights per week with a daily flight from Seychelles to the world via Doha.

The Minister responsible for Tourism and also Civil Aviation said that today Seychelles was welcoming the first of the seven flights per week to be operated by Qatar Airways and that the country was looking forward to the consolidation of Qatar Airways’ Seychelles route as it is for the benefit of the Seychelles tourism industry.

“It is a good day because we see more connectivity for our islands. Seychelles as mid-ocean islands know full well that our tourism industry, which is the pillar of the economy, won’t survive if we don’t have air access. Today Qatar Airways has landed with 7 more flights to our shores and this is a welcome move,” Minister St.Ange said.
