Lloyd I. Unebasami named interim CEO for Hawaii Tourism Authority
Lloyd I. Unebasami as the Interim President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Unebasami replaces Rex Johnson who resigned on October 8, 2008, and his appointment is effective October 9, 2008.
According to HTA chair Kelvin Bloom, “Lloyd has been with the Authority since 2000 and previously has served in various capacities in state government, including as the State’s Procurement Administrator, Deputy Comptroller for the State and the Deputy Director of Taxation. With his strong commitment to public service, high level of integrity and extensive experience in administration, Lloyd is extremely qualified to handle the challenges ahead for the agency. As the Interim CEO, Lloyd will oversee the day-to-day operations of the agency and assist the HTA during this transition period as the search for a new Executive Director begins. With Lloyd at the helm, the Board can focus on the important task of finding a permanent replacement to help Hawaii through the challenging times ahead.”
“I appreciate the confidence that the Board has shown (in) me. HTA has a difficult task ahead due to the slowdown in Hawaii’s economy and its affects on the visitor industry. Nevertheless, I will do my utmost to move the agency forward during these difficult times,” said Lloyd Unebasami.
In addition to his public service, Unebasami’s background includes close to 15 years of experience working in the private sector, holding senior positions for major Hawaii corporations including Dillingham Land Corporation and Ala Moana City Corporation (now known as General Growth Properties). Unebasami attended McKinley High School and graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
