Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates 360-degree vision of sustainability
Internationally recognized, Green Globe worked with Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates to improve sustainable management and operations outcomes; ensuring that the group could realize its sustainability targets, across all aspects of the business.
Accepting the certification on behalf of Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, General Manager, Michael R Payne said, “The team here at Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates is passionate about sustainability and we have a 360-degree approach to delivering the best outcomes across social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of our business.

“Green Globe certification formally recognizes the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates’ green practices, and this has become an increasingly important factor for consideration by both leisure and business travelers. It also improves Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates’ expertise and selection of partners who share the same sustainable ideologies,” concluded General Manager Payne.
Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates recently concluded a AED368 million redevelopment, which saw the refurbishment of all 393 guest rooms and suites and 20 luxury Aspen chalets, the placement of new state-of-the-art conference and catering facilities, the re-launch of the hotel’s luxury lobby lounge - Aspen, and the opening of three new restaurants and lounges, Olea, Salero Tapas&Bodega and Noir.
Sandrine Le Biavant, Director Consultancy at FARNEK Middle East, Green Globe’s Preferred Partner in the Middle East, said, “Kempinski is not new to sustainability. MAF Properties have indeed enabled the hotel to invest significantly in energy efficiency programs over the past years while monitoring quarterly the results. This has led to an energy performance (in 2015) of 205 kWh/sqm, which is a great result for a 5-star city hotel in Dubai. Water performance has also been very good at 318 liters per guest night, showing a leadership position compared to the Dubai benchmark, as recorded by FARNEK’s Hotel Optimizer statistics. Similarly, the waste ratio of 1.72kg per guest night is commendable.
“Through the Green Globe certification process, we are confident that the motivation and engagement demonstrated by all departments supporting operational improvements will further enhance the property’s resources management,” added FARNEK’s Director Le Biavant.
Since 2013, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates has been LEED Silver certified for existing building, operations and maintenance and is currently in line with its 3% energy saving targets for 2016, with 90% of all lights replaced by LED lighting.
