IATA Schedules Conference

( 120th IATA Schedules Conference at Congress Centre from 2 - 5 June: Dresden is world bazaar for schedules • 250 airlines coordinate takeoff and landing slots.
From 2 to 5 June 2007 Dresden will be a Mecca for about 900 flight schedulers from all over the world. 250 airlines from 136 countries will be represented - from A for American Airlines in the USA to Z for Zambian Airways in Africa. At the 120th IATA Scheduling Conference at the International Congress Centre they will be coordinating their schedules for the 2007/2008 winter season.

The schedules conference of the Montreal-based International Air Transport Association (IATA) is held twice a year. Dresden joins a list of venues in major cities, like Vancouver in Canada and Dallas in the USA where the schedulers met in 2006. The next venue after Dresden will be Toronto in Canada in November 2007.

At their conference the schedulers coordinate slots, the time windows in which an airline can land and take off at any given airport. The number of slots available depends on the airport’s capacity - the number of runways and their configuration, the method and duration of passenger handling, the aircraft mix, the high-speed taxiways and weather conditions. The conference in Dresden will form the basis for all worldwide schedules for the winter 2007/08 season.

Dr. Michael Hupe, MD of Dresden Airport und chair of Dresden Convention Bureau e.V.: “The international scheduling conference is a real coup for Dresden. The meeting will increase awareness among airlines of Saxony’s dynamic, growing capital city. Right at the top of our wish list are more international non-stop flights. The city and the airport will therefore be showing ourselves to our best advantage.”
