Walk the world for Just a Drop

Walk the world for Just a Drop ( Make every step at World Travel Market in London 'count' this November while raising money at the same time for the industry's international water-aid charity 'Just a Drop.' Celebrating its tenth birthday, the organizers of World Travel Market have come up with the perfect opportunity for you to make your contribution… without having to do anything. The answer lies in the aching feet and throbbing toes which is an inevitable result of a productive and enjoyable day of business at World Travel Market!

As part of the tenth anniversary, 'Just a Drop' is asking World Travel Market delegates to purchase a 'Just a Drop' pedometer for £10 - £10 for 10 years - to use throughout the exhibition and encourage participants to sign-up for further funding to sponsor the exact number of kilometers they will walk during the course of a busy WTM week. “When visiting stands in all the regions of the world, people often wonder just how far they have walked at World Travel Market," said Just a Drop's founder and chairman Fiona Jeffery. “Now it will be easy to check how many kilometers they clock up with one of the 'Just a Drop' pedometers. The beauty of the idea is that we are not asking delegates to do anything more than they usually do. Now delegates can walk around ExCeL, London and, at the same time, help give the gift of clean water to a child."

The 'Just a Drop Walk the World' initiative is a key part of the charity's fund raising activities for the fourth quarter of 2008. Log on to to purchase a pedometer. Organizers stress that there is never any difficulty finding worthwhile projects. “Just a Drop is acquiring a hard-won reputation by reaching communities often living in more remote areas of the Third World that other charities are simply unable to help," said Jeffery. “But there is never sufficient money to cover them all."

“These are people who have never known the luxury of turning on a tap close to their home and enjoying clean water, who watch helplessly as their children suffer and sometimes die because of a lack of clean water." Jeffery said the scale of the problem is unimaginable. A total of 1.8 million children die each year because of water borne diseases - one every 17 seconds. “We are anxious to find more industry organizations that will commit to sponsoring a specific project. Working with 'Just a Drop' can offer real business benefits, helping companies to find a solution that delivers strategic objectives."

“We are finding that more companies are beginning to use 'Just a Drop' as a core element of their corporate social policy, and in addition, it engages customers and suppliers, helps to bolster staff morale and encourages team achievement." The 'Just a Drop' team is appealing for sponsorship for an average protected well, costing approximately £7,500. In addition, they would like to discuss other fund-raising activity at World Travel Market 2008, Monday, November 10 - Thursday November 13.
