Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul awarded Gold Membership
Green Globe recently awarded Gold Membership to Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul in recognition of its continued commitment to sustainable best practices.
Bozkurt Atabek, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul said, “It is an honor to announce that Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul was re-certified in 2016 for the fifth year running with an impressive compliance score of 90%. We are very proud to have achieved Green Globe Gold Status.
“This achievement is quantifiable proof of our leadership in sustainable tourism and environmental responsibility, proving that we make protecting our planet a priority. Being Green Globe certified is not only a great honor but is also an essential in today’s world since our guests highly consider the environment when selecting their accommodation,” added Mr. Atabek.
The Director of Human Resources, Cigdem Karakaya was congratulated for leading the re-certification project along with all other staff members at the hotel who helped it earn re-certification, and contribute every day to greener, healthier outcomes.
“Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul strives to leave a better tomorrow for future generations. We will keep on encouraging our employees to learn more about environmental and sustainability issues and more importantly implementing them in daily hotel operations,” explained Mr. Atabek.
To achieve internationally recognized, independently audited Green Globe certification, the property provided detailed proof of environmental, social and employer-related sustainable practices. Management and staff firmly believe that with combined efforts they can leave a smaller carbon footprint to preserve the environment. Putting sustainability ( www.movenpick.com/fileadmin/files/Hotels/Turkey/Istanbul/PDF/MP-TR-IST_SustainabilityBrochure1115_I_BE.PDF ) at the heart of its operations, the hotel continues to reduce its water and energy consumption, minimize waste production and ensure that as much food as possible is sourced from local organic farmers.
Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul is currently implementing Green Meeting concepts where guests can be confident that not only accommodation but also events and meetings held at the hotel are organized and executed with sustainability in mind. In line with green conference facilities and practices, Green Meeting coordinators use efficient energy concepts, provide sustainable stationary and limit the production of waste. During coffee breaks and meals, dishes prepared with seasonal and regional products are offered and served with Mövenpick Fair Trade coffee.
