IBEROSTAR Playa Mita supports sustainable tourism through CSR efforts
The hotel was recently recertified by Green Globe for its second year and achieved an outstanding compliance score of 90%.

The hotel chain recently implemented sustainable solutions that contribute to energy and water conservation.
Newly equipped elevators have an energy recovery system installed that recovers kinetic energy each time an elevator travels downwards making them 50% more energy efficient than conventional elevators. In addition, the air conditioning system is reliant on magnetic equipment that provides optimal energy efficiency and lowers energy consumption. Furthermore, high quality and durable LED lights have been installed that use a total minimum of 30,000 hours of electricity compared to 2,000 hours for conventional lamps.
Water saving measurements at the property include the installation of faucets with water flow limiters so that regardless of the inlet pressure, faucets maintain water flow preventing over-consumption of water. While toilets use a minimal 4.8 liters of water per flush as compared to 6 liters in conventional toilets. Urinals work without any water at all.
In addition to these newly implemented solutions, IBEROSTAR continues to adhere to environmentally friendly operations on a daily basis. IBEROSTAR Playa Mita uses biodegradable cleaning products and promotes the culture of recycling to all its employees and guests.
IBEROSTAR’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) vision and commitment is shared with its customers and employees and expands further out into the local community. The brand promotes the conservation of natural resources and economic development through sustainable procurement policies which assist local suppliers in meeting sustainability standards.
Also, the brand has developed conservation programs including a sea turtle monitoring and release program that strongly supports their efforts to provide education about sustainability and encourage social action within the community. Furthermore, IBEROSTAR Playa Mita gives back to the community through organizing regular local beach clean-ups.
IBEROSTAR Playa Mita was first awarded Green Globe certification in December 2014 following a comprehensive audit. With this certification, all 10 IBEROSTAR hotels in Mexico were officially Green Globe certified, reaffirming the brand’s commitment to sustainability through minimizing their environmental impact and promoting a commitment to the development of sustainable tourism.
