The Czech Republic before Christmas: Where to buy the best presents ( Are you planning to come to the Czech Republic to do your Christmas shopping? Do you want to take home authentic souvenirs? Here are tips for places to go which are guaranteed to offer original gifts, top quality fashion wear as well as traditional Czech products.

Palace Plus – Czech Bijoux and Glass

To find original jewelry, head to Jablonec nad Nisou in North Bohemia. Generations of glassmakers have been producing elegant bijoux pieces here for over three hundred years. Earrings, necklaces and charming wedding sets can be bought in Palace Plus - Czech Bijoux and Glass where, on an area of 650 m2, you can choose from over 5000 glass jewelry items. For artistic souls, Palace Plus offers loose beads or pearls and other pieces necessary for making your own bijouterie. Every Wednesday afternoon, you can join the demonstration tour to see the production of glass jewelry, pearls or Christmas decorations. If you wish to support the future producers of bijouterie, you can purchase the works of art made by school students in Jablonec.

Luxury in Pařížská Street

The works of the best Czech designers as well as the world’s top fashion brands can be found in Pařížská Street (Paris Street) near the Old Town Square in Prague. Luxury boutiques of the best fashion designers in the world mingle here with typical antique shops exuding a magical atmosphere. In Pařížská Street, you can also buy top quality Czech glass and china, as well as jewelry, or visit luxury restaurants and bars. The street is interesting also from an architectural point of view. Art Nouveau houses were only built in the 19th century after the clearance of the Jewish quarter. Only St. Nicholas Church and the Gothic Old-New Synagogue remain from the original built-up area.

For quality glass head for Karlovy Vary

If you want a genuine souvenir from the Czech Republic and at the same time an excellent gift for your loved ones, look no further than Czech glass products. You can buy some of the highest quality pieces from the traditional producer of the Moser brand. Take a trip to the West-Bohemian spa town of Karlovy Vary and, in between the relaxation treatments which you simply must try in Czech spas, visit the Moser sales gallery. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and sells gift and beverage glass, china, Czech garnet products and traditional glass jewelry. If you want to make someone really happy, have their initials engraved on your chosen item.

Outlets – buy top quality fashion at discount prices

Visit outlets for all year-round discounts. The oldest outlet in the Czech Republic and one of the largest in Central Europe is the Hatě Freeport Fashion Outlet. It is located on the Czech-Austrian border near Znojmo and offers over 250 world known brands in 75 shops. Every day, you can save 30% to 70% here, but some goods may be discounted by as much as 90%! It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Outlet shopping can be enjoyed also in Prague. The Fashion Arena Prague Outlet in Štěrboholy is the largest shopping center of this type in the Czech Republic. In over 100 shops you can buy men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, sport accessories, luggage, underwear, household goods, books as well as Belgian chocolate. The shops are operated by the brand producers themselves or their exclusive representatives. They are open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Traditional cosmetic products by Manufaktura

Would you like to buy traditional Czech products created with the use of original procedures handed down through families over the centuries? Visit the shops of the Manufaktura network. They were established in 1991 in order to support traditional Czech and Moravian crafts. To this day, craftsmen from the whole of the Czech Republic supply their products to them. There, you can buy cosmetic sets, hand-made soaps and creams made from Czech ingredients drawing on the local world-renowned spa care. But the range of the Manufaktura network is much more varied. In the little shops with a homely atmosphere, you will find aromatic oils, china and small decorative items. Manufaktura is represented in shopping centers in Prague, Pilsen, Brno, Ostrava, Liberec, Karlovy Vary and many other towns.

Hand-made marionettes

Plaster, wooden as well as antique marionettes can be purchased in the centers of large Czech and Moravian towns, but it is well worth visiting the traditional Prague studios. Original and rare items can be discovered for instance in Nerudova Street, Prague 1, where the hand-made original pieces include not only fairy-tale characters but also carved characters resembling forest fruits – acorns, chestnuts or mushrooms. A workshop producing hand-made fairy-tale marionettes can also be found near Vyšehrad in Lumírova Street, Prague. Here, they will create unconventional marionettes at your request, for example a doctor, sultan, an alchemist or even Mozart.
