Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag-Voorburg supports local community, reduces global footprint
The hotel was recently awarded Green Globe recertification in acknowledgement of the property’s commitment to sustainable best practices and achieved a notable compliance score of 82% against accredited criteria.

Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag-Voorburg encourages everyone to reduce carbon emissions by using eco-friendly transportation. Jean Luc Baeriswyl, the General Manager, leads by example by driving a Mitsubishi Outlander electric car. And this year the hotel built three charging points onsite where the public can recharge their electric cars. Public trains are located near the hotel and train schedules can be viewed on a dedicated screen in the lobby. Furthermore, bikes are available for hire as well as electric boats or sloepen that can be used to explore the city’s canals.
Community development is another priority that contributes to the local economy. Mövenpick Hotel Den Haag-Voorburg supports the Board of MKB that aims to reduce unemployment in the region. The hotel also sponsors various charitable causes and provided guest rooms for Foundation ‘Doe een Wens’, an organization that assists people with Cystic Fibrosis.
Energy, water and waste are monitored regularly and reduction targets set in these three key areas. To conserve energy consumption the hotel has a Building Maintenance System in place that centrally controls air conditioning and heating at the property. In addition, LED lighting, timers and motion sensors are installed around most of the property with other areas gradually being phased in over time.
Water saving devices are fitted on shower heads, taps and toilets in guest rooms and in public areas. In guest rooms this equates to a saving of up to 15% in overall water usage. To further conserve water, the hotel has its own energy saving plan. Guests can have their linen and towels laundered every other day rather than daily. Another innovative idea is used in Green Meetings where delegates are provided with bottled water filled at the hotel. Any remaining drinkable water is offered to staff members rather than simply disposing of it and wasting this natural resource.
