"Thank you for your enthusiasm to defend the Creole culture," says Minister St.Ange of Seychelles

"Thank you for your enthusiasm to defend the Creole culture," says Minister St.Ange of Seychelles ( Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, said this week that he was proud of the Festival Creole Committee and also proud of everyone who came out to be seen and to be counted as supporters of the Kreol Festival.

“To be where we are as a people, we needed to know where we came from. This is why we have been celebrating the five historical branches that make us the proud and happy Seychellois Creole people we are," said Minister St.Ange, as he explained that it was unacceptable to forget any of the country’s historical branches.

“The Department of Culture today celebrates the La Francophonie with a dedicated French Day to mark the French era, FetAfrik to mark the connection with Africa, the Commonwealth Day with hopefully a dedicated British Day to mark the English era, a Seychelles-India Day and a Seychelles-China Day to mark our connections with India and China, and finally we celebrate who we are today on International Creole Day with our Festival Kreol," said Minister St.Ange.

The Minister said that the many dedicated believers who come out year after year to meet months ahead to plan Festival Kreol and to ensure that events that appear on the program reflect the aspirations of the people who come out to celebrate the event Seychelles has celebrated for the last thirty years.

This year, Seychelles welcomed once again delegations from Reunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Haiti and saw a wide range of activities to suit everyone - the Creole plays, the young stylists who came out to showcase their creations, the short plays by schools, the culture through agriculture show by farmers, the local dance competition, the traditional wedding Tifin, the arts exhibition by the Arts Federation as well as one by a Reunionais, the young artists competition, the exhibition depicting the slave era in Seychelles and in Haiti, the fun day at the beach at Anse Royale that attracted thousands and thousands of Seychellois, the women-only musical band who can out to stage their show and the Creole musical show that came the following day right in the heart of Victoria, and the finale the popular bal at the Kreol Institute, and more.

All this was over and above the opening ceremony and the laserenade where hundreds of young and old paraded and danced together and Seychellois artists performed to the admiration of Seychelles.

“I am joined by PS Benjamine Rose, her team at the Department of Culture, and by all those who sat on the Festival Kreol Committee to keep the one celebration we have that showcases our unique culture alive. Together we say thank you to the people of Seychelles who participated with us in the spirit of showcasing our Creolite, as we told the world we were proud to be Seychellois and Creoles," said Minister St.Ange.
