Positive steps recognized at Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain
Guests can explore the cosmopolitan lifestyle of the Kingdom of Bahrain that makes it one of the most attractive destinations in the Gulf Region. The hotel itself features contemporary Arabian architecture and interiors coupled with the latest technology and modern conveniences.
Green Globe congratulates Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain on its recent recertification and its outstanding compliance score of 89% against accredited criteria.
Mr. Daniel Kaan, General Manager at Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain said, “It’s a great pleasure to reap the fruits of our labor and receive the Green Globe Certification for the fourth year in a row. For 2015, the property underwent a significant change in lighting and switched to LED bulbs in all areas. We have thus far saved 8.72% on electricity this year. Much investment, selection and auditing have taken place for these projects to succeed, and we are glad that these positive steps are being recognized.”
Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain uses the Hotel Optimizer management system designed by Green Globe’s preferred Middle East Partner FARNEK to record and monitor all energy and water consumption. An Energy Management System (EMS) is in place and energy saving measures are being implemented throughout the property. All guest rooms are controlled by digital thermostat set to 23 degrees when unoccupied and are also equipped with energy efficient TVs and appliances.
As part of the hotel’s water saving strategies dual flush toilets are installed in guest rooms and low flow aerators are fitted on showerheads and taps. In addition, motion sensors are fitted on all public access toilets. And to further minimize water usage the property features native plants in gardens and landscaping.
Waste volume is also recorded and reduction goals set by the hotel. Wastepaper, plastic and metal are sent to the UNIVERSE recycling company. And composting is handled by NASS, an external contractor that produces organic fertilizer.
To reduce its impact on the environment, the hotel building itself follows numerous sustainable practices. All guest rooms and public areas are fitted with double glazed and tinted glass to provide insulation. The property also utilizes lead free paints, natural marble and gypsum board.
The staff at Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain are actively engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that include blood donation drives, organizing special events for disabled children and supporting charities such as DAR-UCO an organization that provides care and accommodation for the elderly. Regular beach clean ups are also conducted as part of the hotel’s environmental activities. These initiatives are part of Shine, which is the global sustainability programme of Mövenpick Hotels&Resorts that aims to give back to the communities where the company operates. Shine’s efforts concentrate on three pillars – Environment, Employer and Social Sustainability, with Education forming the common thread as a key focus.
