Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate makes positive contributions to the environment

Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate makes positive contributions to the environment (Forimmediaterelease.net) LOS ANGELES, California - The 14th century travels of the Arab explorer Ibn Battuta have inspired the intricate décor and design details of the Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate in Dubai in the UAE. Arabian architectural features are prominent in the magnificent structure of the hotel itself and Moroccan influences are reflected in luxurious room styling. The 5-star hotel is within walking distance from Ibn Battuta Shopping Mall and the Dubai Metro with easy access to Dubai’s top attractions. The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Jebel Ali Free Zone are situated nearby.

Green Globe congratulates Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate on its recent recertification for the fourth year and its notable compliance score of 80% against accredited criteria.

Robert Barker, General Manager at Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate said: “We believe that reducing the property’s carbon footprint is considered as an incumbent priority and is at the forefront of our core values and beliefs. Through the adaption of ecological practices including; the conservation of water and energy resources and the utilization of new technology powered by renewable energy sources, we have committed ourselves to being a sustainable and socially responsible property.”

Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate uses the Hotel Optimizer management system designed by Green Globe’s preferred Middle East Partner FARNEK to record and monitor all energy and water consumption. The hotel is striving to implement energy and water saving measures in all relevant areas and aims to reduce water and energy consumption by up to 8% per year. Energy saving strategies include the use of a centralized Room Management System (RMS) that controls air conditioning and lighting in guest rooms with adjustments made during periods of occupancy. In addition, there has been an increased usage of LED lighting and motion sensors throughout the property.

In an effort to conserve water resources, water saving aerators and dual system low flush toilets are fitted in guest rooms and public and staff bathrooms. The hotel has recently made improvements to its staff bathrooms by installing urinals featuring unique waterless technology, which is expected to make a positive contribution towards the reduction of water consumption. Furthermore, the hotel has a water storage tank in the basement of which can store seven days’ supply of water.

To reduce the property’s impact on the environment, all guest rooms, meeting rooms and restaurants are fitted with glass windows to take advantage of the availability of natural light. In their conscious efforts towards conserving energy, all of the hotel’s hot and cold water, chilled water pipes and air conditioning ducts are properly insulated to reduce temperature loss as much as possible. Additionally, the hotel building itself is constructed of sustainable materials wherever possible utilizing materials such as medium density fiber board instead of wood, natural granite and clay roof tiles. Throughout the hotel’s recent renovation work, eco-friendly wood was utilized for floor replacements and lead-free paints were used for repainting purposes.

As part of its environmental responsibilities, the hotel also supports a local group, the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG). As an EEG member, the hotel implemented a fundraising campaign for planting Gaff trees. Gaff trees are the national tree of the UAE, native to the region and prove to be very effective in retaining dune structure and stabilizing sandy soil.
