Trinidad & Tobago Tourism Minister shares tourism industry plans at SOTIC ( PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – A re-energized vision of Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism industry took center stage during Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) 2015 State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC) currently under way on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao.

During a press briefing held on October 20, 2015 at the destination’s World Trade Centre, the Honorable Shamfa Cudjoe, Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Tourism, shared the latest developments in the country’s tourism industry, including its goals for a streamlined product as well as plans for infrastructure expansion.

Key tourism developments shared by Minister Cudjoe included:

• Positioning capital city Port of Spain as a cultural powerhouse on the world stage; upgrades and community tourism at Maracas Bay; development of a Sugar Heritage Village and Museum.

• Small Tourism Enterprises Project (STEP) – the training programme designed to inform and educate tourism SME’s on the importance of entrepreneurial thinking.

• Service Training Attitude Respect (STAR) - a programme launched as a national quality service training initiative seeking to hone the attitudes, behaviors and skills of professionals in the local tourism sector.

• Accommodation Upgrade Project – a project designed to provide an incentive in the form of a partial reimbursement of the cost of upgrade works undertaken to eligible tourist accommodation to bring them to a first class level to meet and/or exceed the Trinidad and Tobago Standard Requirements for Tourist Accommodation.

Trinidad and Tobago’s delegation at the conference also includes:

CTO’s State of the Industry Conference brings together some 300 tourism industry leaders from the 30 member-countries of the CTO, as well as representatives of the regional and international private sector, academics, media, students, travel trade partners and other industry stakeholders from within and outside the region.
