Youths of Seychelles keen to promote and preserve their culture

Youths of Seychelles keen to promote and preserve their culture ( Youths showed that they are proud of the Seychelles’ rich culture over the weekend during an event dubbed as Zenn Kreol.

Through dance performances, songs, poetry, and other forms of art, a group of young people demonstrated their love and appreciation towards their country’s culture.

The event was organized by the Seychelles National Youth Council as part of activities to mark this year’s Festival Kreol.

Present at the activity which was held at the youth center at English River, were the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, Principal Secretary for Youth Alain Volcère, and other invitees.

The Zenn Kreol activity, now in its third year, is a chance to revive traditions and get the youths to understand the importance of valuing and preserving their culture.

Deputy Chief Executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council Ghislaine Belmont said the Zenn Kreol event is testimony that the organization is also contributing to promote and preserve the country’s culture.

She said for the first Zenn Kreol event in 2013, youths were given the chance to learn more about the furniture that was used long ago, and other traditional artifacts, as well as medicinal plants.

Last year, the theme concentrated more on the youths in the 1960-70s.
