Gangtey Goenpa Lodge: A visit to the Himalaya-Kingdom ( Get away from it all and slow down: Especially visitors of the Himalaya-Kingdom of Bhutan are able to do so. Because here, they are allowed to take a huge step back, away from the stresses and materialism of modern life and concentrate on the beauty of the still unknown land. From here, the rest of the world seems far far away…

When experiencing Bhutan with all of its facets, visitors should not miss the chance to stay in a real Bhutanese country house. Gangtey Goenpa Lodge fulfills and clearly tops all expectations. Accommodation in a suite starts at 386€ per night on half board basis. Further information at

Developed in 2003 as a small guesthouse, architect Mary Lou Thomson and the owners Brett Melzer and Khin Omar Win, transformed the guesthouse into a luxurious Bhutanese Lodge with only twelve suites. It speaks for itself, that peace and privacy plays a major role at Gangtey Goenpa Lodge. But also luxury and comfort is given, due to the spacious rooms and its stylish interior. Wall-to-ceiling windows capture impressive views of the valley, whether while relaxing on the couch, in bed or in the free-standing bath tub… hand-crafted fireplaces and underfloor heating always offer a pleasant warmth. Monks, local artists and masons worked on the murals and carvings, reflecting images and landscapes of the valley.

Meeting place for all guests at Gangtey Goenpa Lodge is the main lodge and the terrace. Here they can savor a morning cup of coffee on the spacious terrace while the valley awakens with fresh pine scented air. Cozy leather sofas, nestled around two huge stone fireplaces and plush, hand woven carpeting create the perfect atmosphere for intimate evening time. The long wood table is where the delicious Bhutanese and Asian delights are served. Also from here guests enjoy stunning views of the valley and the Gangtey Goenpa, a monastery, just five minutes away.

By the way, the couple Brett Melzer and Khin Omar Win are also founder of Balloons over Bagan, pioneers of ballooning. The combination of the real Bhutan and a balloon adventure over the mystical Myanmar is a must-see for all globetrotters.
