Samaya Seminyak Bali 3rd year Green Globe certified
Green Globe is the premier worldwide certification program developed specifically for the travel and tourism industry. The Green Globe Certification Standard provides hotel and resort organizations with a framework to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their environmental sustainability performance, through which they can monitor improvements and achieve certification. The Samaya Seminyak was recently awarded its Green Globe re-certification for the third year respectively.
Ray Clark, General Manager at The Samaya Seminyak Hotel and Spa said, “We are very pleased to have successfully passed our Green Globe re-certification for the 3rd successive year. I am delighted to receive again this easily recognized prestigious certification that reinforces our commitment to Tourism sustainability within The Bali Hotel community.”
Green Programs at the resort are continually updated with many new projects launched each year. Currently Samaya Seminyak is building rainwater collection tanks to maximize natural water resources. And motion sensor lighting has been installed at the property to lower energy consumption.
Waste reduction strategies include encouraging suppliers to minimize their packaging of products. And the hotel prefers the use of glass water bottles in restaurants and mini-bars rather than disposable water bottles. One clever recycling initiative involves the reuse of large plastic containers as flowerpots to grow endangered plant species.
To reduce its impact on the environment, the resort makes its own organic fertilizer for use in its gardens and grounds. Furthermore, sound proofing of generator rooms has been undertaken as a means of decreasing noise pollution emitted from the property.
Regional community development is encouraged with the sale of local goods at the Spa and the purchase of local products when available. And the hotel works closely with local tourism schools by providing sustainability training as well as organizing AIDS awareness classes.
Samaya Seminyak’s Sustainability Management Plan maintains a continual progressive approach towards sustainability. The resort’s Green Team headed by Eka Dilaga (Resort Service Manager) and Ray Clark aim to improve sustainable operations using methods and modes that follow current best practices. The Green Team remains committed and dedicated to the cause and encourages guests to participate in regular sustainable programs.
As part of its support of biodiversity projects Samaya Seminyak staff actively engage in annual Earth Day celebrations and regularly participate in clean ups of areas surrounding the hotel including the beach. In addition, this year staff attended a workshop about the protection of sea turtles on World Turtle’s Day and the hotel contributed a donation.
“We at The Samaya Seminyak will also continue to research the new trends of Eco-Green sustainable products, resources, equipment&methodology to keep abreast of new trends and resources to assist us,” concluded Ray Clark.
