Cinnamon Bey Beruwala, caring for its culture and community (Forimmediaterelease.net) LOS ANGELES, California - The five-star spacious and luxurious Cinnamon Bey Beruwala is located at Beruwala in Sri Lanka. The history of Beruwala dates back to the 10th century when the first permanent Arab settlements in Sri Lanka were recorded, and it is the traditional Turkish architecture that has been the inspiration for the resort. It is a pleasure and a privilege for the Cinnamon Bey Beruwala to have achieved Green Globe certification and we will certainly ensure that we are constantly developing and improving this model for future generations.”

Cinnamon Bey Beruwala has been constructed with the aim of minimizing energy and water use and has achieved LEED Gold Certification. In line with energy saving strategies lighting on the property is either CFL or LED bulbs. Forty solar panels are in place for hot water heating which provides 50% of the hot water demand at the resort. Furthermore, cool air from the hot water heat pump is diverted to the air-conditioning chiller room and the maintenance office.

To conserve water, flushing systems for all guest rooms and public area washrooms are through a pressurized flushing system that has been programmed to use 3 liters of water per flush. In addition, recycled water is used for 100% of flush water and also utilized for the sprinkler system to irrigate the resort’s grounds. Finally, rainwater is also collected for use in the resort’s grounds and to wash cars.

As part of its waste management system Cinnamon Bey Beruwala separates all waste that is collected weekly by a local recycling company. To further reduce its environmental impact on the environment all chemicals used on the property by kitchens and housekeeping are biodegradable with diluter systems in place. And as part of its reuse program - all room numbers, the floors and walls of the Fire Restaurant and the majority of table tops at the resort’s restaurants have been constructed using recycled pieces of tile which would otherwise have been discarded by tile manufacturers.

Training is conducted for employees on sustainability issues including water and energy conservation, and waste management. This is also included in the induction program for new recruits. In addition, the resort carries out seminars to raise environmental awareness with local school children who visit the property on field trips. Cinnamon Bey Beruwala is also actively engaged in a youth development program that provides training in hotel operations and English language skills for students of school leaving age thereby contributing towards the development of a skilled workforce in the area.

As part of its social and corporate responsibilities Cinnamon Bey Beruwala maintains solid relationships with the local community. Training has been conducted for beach operators, taxi drivers, and three wheel drivers, enabling them to earn a more reliable livelihood in a responsible manner. And, local culture is promoted through a weekly cultural show at the resort where local artists are also encouraged to display and sell their artwork to guests. At all wedding events, Cinnamon Bey Beruwala gives priority to local suppliers such as photographers, florists, dancers and other entertainment.

Further contributions to regional economic development includes the sourcing of local produce such as fresh vegetables and fruit, seafood, meat, curd and other ingredients for the resort’s kitchens. Daily buffets also include a Sri Lankan corner for guests to experience the local cuisine. And, an onsite organic garden grows herbs that are used in the resort’s kitchens and bar.
